Flame and I left on March 1 it was 0 with a 15 degree wind chill!!! It was a great start. Half the people we met quite at Neels Gap. But most of the people we met at Neels Gap finished! Flame and I will be at Newfound Gap in the Smokies on the last weekend in March for Trail Magic and rides to Gatlinburg. Hope to see you there, we’ll keep the hamburgers hot for you. Last year there was about 6 inches to a foot of snow on the ground! Have a great hike! GA-ME '02

We started on March 1st this year and didn’t have to many problems with weather. We had two snow storms, but they were not for several weeks into the trail. We made it to New York and PA Bear and Little Nose are thinking of trying again this year, starting on LEAP Year (Feb 29th). Hope to see you all there…:boy

I had my sights set on hiking '04. March first to be exact. But with money probs and a vast array of complications, I can’t. Once again I raise my glass to this years lucky ones who hike. I wish I could be there with yall.Don’t worry, I’m staring down '05 with fury.I’m gonna do it. For know I’ll sick to my section of the Florida Trail, though.

Andy, I was at Gooch Gap on Mar.2 with a big bunch of the Pack 3/1 starters. When we awoke on Monday morning, the thermometer read 19 degrees outside. Felt pretty cold to me!! We just didn’t have any snow on the ground. They had to wait a few weeks and get into NC to find the snow.
Pretty cold for Southern temps when there is no where to go warm up and no luxuries nearby.

ANDY: Even used to Michigan weather, you will be amazed at the temps in GA. It also depends on the year. But I’ve been winter camping on numerous occasions along the AT in GA/NC where the temps dipped below the 0 deg F rank. One particular trip in southwestern NC during February, it was
-7 deg and about 25 mph winds, with 21 inches of snow on the ground. I dont care where your from, thats cold. Nevertheless, we’ll see ya FEB 1!
