Can two guys share a tent?

Personally I wouldn’t have liked to share a tent with another guy as I like my personal space. However, I hiked with 2 “Brits” last year (Guern and Donkey) who shared a tent for the whole trail and seemed to get along just fine. I used a Sierra Clip Lightyear and was very happy with it. I left my pack outside covered with a garbage bag and that worked out just fine.

I used a Eureka Timberlite2, two person tent, but one man. I kept my pack in the tent the entire trip. I only slept in 4 shelters. My point. I tented the entire trip. Had to wash the tent by the time I got to hanover. The smell was pretty bad. It has now been retired. I enjoyed the privacy and mobility a tent gave you. As long as I had enough water I could camp just about anywhere, particularly in the south. In the whites I did not stay in one Hut. It can be done. Never could get a female hiker in there tho:oh :smokin

Is it true that 30 - 40 % of hikers are gay? Just wandering how many gay thru hikers are out there? Hate to bring up the subject and I hope no one sees it has a bad subject. As a gay man who will be doing a thru hike soon, was just wandering? I really didn’t think that many gays did the trail. I’m sure no one cares on the trail anyway. Hope we see each other as men and women who share a passion for the AT.

I hiked with two brothers for awhile last summer that shared a two person tent. They seemed to do ok on nights when they didn’t have to put the rainfly on the tent, but they called nights that they had to have the rainfly on “night agony.” I guess the smell was pretty bad.

Folks on the trail are very open to all sorts of people: gay, lesbian,
straight, poor, rich, young, old, professional, laborer, student,
married, divorced, retired, and so on.

That being said, the 30-40% figure for gay hikers is ridiculous.
I only came out to a few people on the trail but I think that
if 30-40% of the hikers were gay, I would have noticed!

There are very few gay men on the trail, a few more lesbians, but
lots of folks who don’t really care much who you are attracted to.

I’m planning on hiking Springer to Damascus again this year. If
I find the trail is suddenly filled with gay men, I may just hike
all the way to Katahdin again!
