CREEPY Service Providers

Twenty one posts in we get a good one, thanks Hiker. Don’t worry I got slammed when I posted about a creepy jerk at the Church hostel in Vernon, NJ last summer. Some peoples heads are so far up their butts, that they can’t see when people are trying to watch each others back.

If someone out there is being creepy, thievey, jerky, or just plain douchey toward us hikers, people need to post. Hard to be an ass if you got to pass the editorial test. :cheers

In reply to “hiker’s” post. I stayed at this hostel and found Mr Champagne to to very much in tune to the A T hikers. I understand that he did some time for past misdeeds but since then has devoted his time and efforts to making a hiker’s stay comfortable and restful. His heart is for the AT and does a lot to protect and maintain the corridor. Bashing him the way you have isn’t fair until you have experienced the trail and stopped at the hostel. It appears that for some unknown reason you have a vendetta against this man and are hoping that the hiking community will pay attention to your ramblings. You need to go up and find a job!!! :mad

Hiker has done a good service for us actual hikers. The post by Mountain Hiker is bs. Hiker at first defended the High Mnt. Hostel. When Sarge pointed out he hadn’t looked deep enough he looked deeper and found out the place was being operated by a shady person. Thats the facts. Please note that Hiker suggested Teri and Birchy aka/Keith/aka/Chickenwing clear up the ownership question and got no reply. The question was asked if the place was licensed and this too has never been asnswered. Quit trying to change the subject and blame hikers for exposing a possible dangerouse, creepy or rip off type place. We have a right to know the questions that have been asked and the backgrounds of the people we trust for our safty. I do not want to stay at a place that is operated by a person with a history of violence and substance abuse and thievery. My choice.

I started this thread and OP only because I had just read the ongoing threads about service providers, one about NOC and one about the Doyle. I figured we were giving our two cents worth about service providers, the same way we do every year as the hiking season gets started. No vendetta or other motovation. I didn’t even mention the name of the place. Anyhow, trail buzz will get to the bubble and section hikers via word of mouth and shelter registers.

As a former service provider I’m reading with interest. My experience is that there are far more creepy, dirty, cheap, irresponsible and entitled hikers than the generally business owners, which is why I banned hikers from lodging or receiving packages at my location. What goes around comes around. And I’ve section hiked all of GA, NC and VA lol so I should know.

‘reckon ya might get along better with the hikers and life in general if ya hadn’t put that big “A-HOLE” tattoo on yer’ forehead.

Had my share of creeps on the trail over the years and learned to rely on myself. I don’t go camping need someones converted trailer to relax at. I can pay a bit more and get a decent motel if I plan correctly. You have to take them all with a bit of caution because other than the long-time providers there are a lot of newer ones looking to find a way to stay near the mountains.

I will check this place out when I get up that way. I don’t worry about if a place has a permit or license. If they give good service that is all that counts for me. Don’t care if someone has a shady past. We all make mistakes. Folks deserve a 2nd chance.

Isn’t this the place that had the hiker arrested for non-payment of a donation or fee? Anyone know if it is true or what became of it?

Case dismissed.

As commented a month ago, the case was dismissed as fraudulent and the hiker was turned loose. The same day Kieth, who claimed to be the owner/operator was arrested and incarcerated. The so called retreat or hostel is now closed.

I am so happy to read all the stuff on this thread. I am hiking to enjoy myself and accomplish something I set out to do. I read every post that has been placed on this thread and I am very sorry for some of you. Good or bad advice is given so others can be aware of things. Just do what you think is right. Personally, I plan on listening to the writers who gave the advice to stay away from the trailer. I am not saying that they are bad people, but I have read more bad than good about that place.

Well,

I’m glad i can access Trail Journals again. If you scroll up I was the guy that did some research about the Keith guy. I gave links to stories about his criminal past, references, etc…and as a result I was subsequently banned from the website. It’s nice to see I can get back online and read about the trail again.

I figured this thing would sort itself out.
