is upgrading for 2004 - according to curtis, he is putting in a wood fired pizza oven there at the site so town pizza runs won’t be such a necessity. he also gives good shuttle.

I would recommend visiting them all. I went into Gatlinburg, Mt mommas and Standing Bear, did not spend the night at any of these places. For me, all the trail places I had heard so much about had some romanticism connected to them and i wanted to experience it all.
I loved Mt mommas. The people were very nice there, tho i always joke that they were nice because it was a sunday. It was part of the trail experience and NO ONE makes a better burger.
Loved spending a few hours talking to Curtis at Standind Bear. Picked up a maildrop, pigged out and hiked up to Max Patch for the nights. Even Gatlinburg was worth seeing, though only in a small 4 hour dose. I DID have a hard time hitching out and we had a little run in with the police…
