Geesh people, you think bad people carry weapons of any sort abide by the rules? Carrying a gun and being proficient with it is no different than knowing how to set up your tent BEFORE going on a hike. I have no fear with a true hiker but remember that bad people are on the trail, especially near trailheads. Most people in the mall are good people, but bad people are there too. Why do you lock your car at the mall? Why do you lock your car at the trailhead? I worked the SAR for the Bryants in Pisgah NF, wasn’t asked what was in my SAR pack, neither did I tell what was in my SAR pack. A short 1/2 mile from any trailhead and I would probably trust 99.9% of who ever is out there. Think and be safe.

Obviously by my prior posts, I am pro gun and believe one should have the right to carry a gun if you want, especially in a wilderness / rural situation. That being said, I deeply respect the views of those who feel differently. In general, I have never met a nicer, kinder, more honest and caring group of people than i have met in reagrds to the AT and the sprit that it embodies.

interesting how some far left loonies relate “guns on the trail” to our current president. even more interesting is how that loonie preches peace with an underlying hate for everything and everyone he doesnt believe in. Maybe moveon.com would be a better place to spew your hatred than tj’s. As far as guns on the trail go, i do not own a gun, i dont have a use for one currently, but if some one has one, and hasnt or isnt breaking any law, who am i to tell them otherwise.
