Hiker-Hunters - Appalachian Trail

Sounds like you only wanted to hear your opinion parroted back to you, this is probably the wrong place for that. I don’t understand why people that don’t want to be around dudes with handguns have to be wussy liberals. I hiked with a kid that called me a liberal just because I didn’t carry a big rambo knife with me, and thought it was a waste of weight to do so. What is it with you guys? What are you afraid of?
Yes I go into the woods with a gun, I don’t however strap my shotgun to my back and head down the trail to the nearest shelter grizzly adams style. I understand that there will be hunters on the trail, I’ve ran into both the friendly kind and the kind that told me to turn around and go back where I came from. I’m just expressing my opinion, one that unfortunately differs from yours…handguns have no place in shelters.

Storm,
Besides the points made by other posters, remember that on certain areas on the trail, carrying a gun is a violation of the law, e.g., the Smokies. Also, there are strict limits on hunting season in Tennessee, and I guess in other states, too. In TN, you can have all your personal property confiscated for certain hunting violations, which could be a bitch in March in the mountains. Check out the laws in each state before packing a rod. And could you bring some gumbo fixin’s for that venison? You bring it, I’ll make it.
