Hiking - So Sad

From what I understand, the guy that committed the murder was a drifter and had been hanging around trails for some time waiting for a victim. Inthe past, communication about the AT and other hiking trails was not that widely avail and for years many people that live nearby to the AT and other trails were unaware. Cybertech is great in that we can communicate alot better now. Really, the solution may be to hike w others and if this is not feasible, do your hike but be more vigilant. Hiking trails will always be places for solitude and getting away from it all but the reality of potential violence, boundary violations and human incivility still exists-but at a much improbable level than throughout daily social interactions. In season, there could be a system wide ridgerunner program that could help. There is always strength in numbers!

If she’d had a man with her, this never would have happened.

She had her dog, but the dog dropped the ball due to no fault of its own. Apparently, the dog was in the back and wasn’t able to get to her in time to save her. I’m guessing the killer had a barrier between them.

If a man had been with her, he wouldn’t have let the killer finish the job, if the psycho had been foolish enough to even try. A man would not have let his girl ride up front with him in the back of the truck, and even if he did, he would have crashed through to the front to save the girl immediately.

A human can put a barrier between his victim and her dog, which this killer apparently did, but those little tricks wouldn’t have worked on a boyfriend. Again, even if the nut would have been foolish enough to try it with a man around.

Thanks for helping to shut down this forum thread too… you need to go away. I’ve re-written this 3 times, but basically, just stop with the ‘she needed a man’ crap.

If you were really concerned about women’s safety instead of defending feminist values, you would admit that hiking with a man is much better protection for a woman than bringing a dog. A dog is okay, but as I pointed out above, a psycho intent on causing harm can neutralize a dog much more easily than a man.
