Hiking Songs - Appalachian Trail

My all time favorite from '02 was when Frodo would sing in that beautiful voice of hers “Big Rock Candy Mountain.”

But because I didn’t listen to a radio or mp3 player while I hiked, I suffered through my own renditions of “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!” and whistling the Sanford and Son theme song over and over and over and over :x

I was personally a fan of Takoma Tedd’s music. (www.takomatedd.com). All original music, most of which was inspired from the trail itself. I had the pleasure of being around Takoma and his music on my '04 hike, and it’s a very significant memory, especially sitting around a campfire on a cloudless night by the brook at Standing Bear Farm. Personally, I would probably go with “Blue Notes Between the White Blazes,” though you can’t go wrong with “Still on the Road to Somewhere” either.

I was thinking about this recently myself, polling AT friends for their favorite hiking songs. I listened to these everyday on my way to work to psych myself up for my thru hike: Beautiful Day - U2, Walk On - U2, New Horizons - David Grey

I also like The Lucky One - Allison Krauss, Phish and the Dead are fun for flat stuff and for the rolling rocky hills of PA.
Anything Blue Grass is fun when you are in the south!
I also agree that some of the heavier rock helped when climbing up and up!!!
