What’s the big deal about how fast water boils, we’re only talking about minutes. I’ve made two pepsi can stoves I’ll be taking with me. Put a heavy gage wire mesh on the bottom of the can and you can turn it upside down and use it with Esbit fuel too. Just make sure you don’t lay it in dirt or you’ll clog up the holes. No need for the Esbit stove. The tabs are only 1/2 ounce each so I’ll carry four or five as a backup. Total weight for my stoves and fuel, 11 oz. I read in a journal if you put a leaf under the Esbit fuel tab, it doesn’t smell so bad. Haven’t tried that yet.
My tent is a Kelty Zen. It’s heavy at almost six pounds, but I love the headroom, and my hubbie may join me when he can. I saved weight in my stoves and bag so it all evens out.
