TANK: Yep…sometimes it is better to be consistent in the mileage than do the big once in a while big day.
For Uberhikers like Squeaky (note: not saying this as an insult, I really think it is cool!), doing consistent big mileage days is doable.
But, for Joe Average hikers like myself, doing three 25 mile days will get me further than doing one 50 mile day and then spending two days recovering!
Saw this on the PCT where it is really easy to big mileage days. People would do 35-40 mile days than recover in town. I’d “only” do 27 or so miles three days in a row. I’d end up further ahead.
Not better or worse…but maybe more efficient.
