A great one this year so far is solace, he seems to have a unique way of writing, of the trail & his past life, check it out!

Sirkus,
Another that you should consider is the 2002 AT journal by Big Red. His journey was a struggle.
See you at Dot’s.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who loved Belcher’s '00 journal
Also, Ramkitten '00 was equally awesome.
One of the best trips isn’t documented in print (or text) all that much, but there’s these folks who live fairly near to me. Alexandra and Garrett Conover, who have done a lot of winter trekking - up frozen rivers (like the St. John, Allagash). Their most impressive hike/trek was in 2003, in Labrador. They started at Iron Arm Lake and followed the Riviere De Pas, east, for 140 miles to the George River, then went for 260 miles to the end of the trip at Ungava Bay.
For two months, the temperature went above 0 degrees once. Read more about it at: http://www.winterwalk2005.org/ungava.htm

Belcher’s journal also was a favorite for me. I remember reading hers and laughing so hard it hurt. That was when I was just dreaming of days on the trails.
By the way, if you want a sea-based hiking journal, mine for the American West Coast Trail walk is as close as one could get. www.thawookie.com/journal.htm

Once again thanks for all the tips. Tried searching for belcher’s journal both on trail journals and through Google but with no luck.
When you are out at sea the last thing you want to read about is “being out at sea”. Right now I want to be daydreaming (should actually be getting my work done)of hiking a long distance trail. A few years back I read a journal from a guy who wrote mostly about food while hiking. What he missed what he made and even more important :how he made it. Any ideas who he was? He also had a pretty good uncensored humor. Actually worked 13 hours yesterday and read journals for another 3 hours after that…tonight I need sleep.

Forgot to add that trailjournals.com should put together a list of the most read journals every year and maybe even offer a little prize to the winner. It would make it easier to find the really “juicy” ones and at the same time make it worth putting a little more creativity into some of the journals.
Just an idea…
Sirkus
Lord, no Sirkus, no prizes. It’s fun to play back and forth with friends about your hit counts, but if you add a prize, people will start taking it SERIOUSLY.
If there’s one thing the world needs LESS of, it’s serious people.
Thanks to all for the kind words here. And I do get a kick out seeing that folks still read my '03 journal, no denying that. The best part, in all honesty, is that it gives Stumpknocker something to be annoyed about, and that’s always a good thing. What’s a little trash talk between friends?
Although with 52K “sympathy” hits and not even getting past Fontana Dam, I think Stumpo’s upcoming hike to Newfoundland will set the new TJ standard. Numerically speaking, anyway. ;-))))
PS My favorite journal ever was Curtis Balls’. He hiked in '98, I think, and kept it over on Trailplace. All vanished electrons now. Let that be a lesson to always keep a backup disc…

Since we’re talking about journals here, I would like to say that I am using this site to record our planning of our American Discovery Trail hike and then tell what worked or didn’t work at http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=1870
There was little information on the web on thru hiking the ADT so I have expanded my TJ beyond the journaling. Again, I want to say Thank You to Leif & ZipDrive for making this possible!
Marcia
Ken and Marcia are featured in this month’s issue of “Backpacker” magazine for their record setting ADT hike.
If you want to read a really good journal this one has it all.
Congrats you two!
