I wanted to link onto this trail while on my pct thru-hike. Alot of people I talked to about it said it was not a good idea. I think there is a book/guide out that describes the route, and i think it is called the high sierra route not the the high sierra trail they are two totally different things(?). I would suggest buying the book that describes this off trail high route. It sounds great though, over 200 miles of offtrail above treeline hiking.
