We’re finally getting some decent precipetation here in N. Calif. Last report I heard was north Sierra 4x% of normal, central and south Sierra 3x%. Weekend forecast calls for 3 feet of new snow above 7,000 in north Sierra.

I guess I was one lucky sonofabatch; starting so late made it extremely hot in the desert, but better conditions in the High Sierra. I was lucky to run into a group of hikers on Mt. San Jac… on the JMT, Pick your river crossings carefully, the shallowest spot is often not at the trail. It is really good to form up with a group at K.Meadows to help with finding trail under the snow. If you camp in the shelter on Mt. Whitney, stay away from the side with the stove pipe where lightning likes to strike (see episode of I Survived). I thought the most difficult snow was on the S. side of Sonora Pass after the JMt. I had to slide down from trail to a flat shelf & lost my iceaxe on the slide down & had to climb back up to get it!
