If you can get a permit in advance for you’re preferred day, that’s great. If not, just show up in the Valley and grab one of the walk up permits. At worst you’ll have to spend one full day stuck in the Valley. Last summer I showed up on a Sunday afternoon in late July and got a two person permit for the next morning.

I too miscalculated - oh well my mistake.
I was looking at alternative trailheads. So where does the Glacier Point start? I am not worried about hiking the exact 211 miles of the JMT.
What is the camping in Little Yosemite valley like? If I want to start at Happy Isles, I have to spend the first nite in there. No big deal - just curious what to expect.
If I do the walk-up permit - where do you stay? How hard is it go get a reservation to camp 1 or 2 nights?
