ohh the tarptent is very nice. I’ve contacted him about getting the Vigra model with sewn and floor. 1.6 lbs!!
I was also checking out the 40/20 at moonbowgear.com, looks very similar in all respects and he the maker lives in my home state which is handy.

If you’re starting in a month it’s probably too late, but a very light tent designed specifically for the AT is the Wanderlust Nomad. It’s light (exactly two pounds ready to roll) yet it’s a fully featured three-season tent, with adequate ventilation and floor space for one sleeping bag plus gear. It uses trekking poles for primary support. It was high enough in the middle so I could sit up, and I’m 6’3". Check out http://www.wanderlustgear.com for details. The tent is essentially custom-made by a guy in South Caroline; I waited two or three months for mine last spring. It’s probably too late for this year, but who knows?

What happens to you and tents such has Kelty dart 1, or Sierra ultra lightyear if it happens to snow?

are good except in cold weather. I’ve had problems getting an alcohol stove going in the low 20s. Above freezing, no problemo.
