Two Hikers Stranded

I was not going to comment on the two hikers getting stranded up on the mountain. How ever after reading about them in the news, i believe they both are stretching the truth just a bit. They were not on white top as reported by them but at the thomas knob shelter which is on the north flank of mount rogers.I live in damascus Va and every one knows the weather up there can change with in seconds with out notice or warning. those two should have been more prepared for a winter hike and they should have checked the weather at the ranger station before heading out there. It is very hard to land any type of air craft up there because of the terrian.

I also hiked into some crazy weather coming out of the highlands last summer. Never felt lightning cracking so close to me before, and I was the highest point. It was after stopping at Wise shelter for lunch. Wasn’t letting a little bit of weather stop me, it was an experience though. Hail, thunder, lightening, really puts you in your place and lets you know where you are in the whole scheme of things. Mother natures rules, over and out…
