For those of you who know him, Old Buffaly, aka Pete Hart was a grand member of the class of 2001. He finished around mid-late August.
Right now he is fighting for his life in a Seattle hospital. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007 and went into remission. Last month he relapsed with a different type of leukemia, which is super rare. He isn’t producing any platelets and his immune system is super weak. He has pneumonia and a bacterial infection right now. He also is on a ventilator.
This guy has been riding the bike every day until this past week, when he started the chemo treatment. He is an iron man and an amazing person. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIS RECOVERY AND FOR THIS PAIN TO GO AWAY… this man was much like a father figure for me on the trail and I am weeping as I write this. He is also a veteran of the NPS, having served as the superintendent of MANY national parks. He actually backpacked with my husband and I on our honeymoon in Glacier, near his home in Montana .
Here is a photo of him from the trail http://www.trailjournals.com/photos.cfm?id=176426
