Hey guys,
as I sit here and read this I am a little humbled and deeply appreciative of your concern. To anyone who is thinking of hiking the AT, this is what the gang at Trailjournals and the Hiker community at large is about. They WILL beat you down in a minute if you stick your head up the wrong way, but everyone of them would drop their pack and hike 35 miles out for help for you, regardless of who you are.
Thanks Guys, you are the best!
Here is what really happened.
Yes it was brutally cold!
Yes the snow was 4 feet deep much of the way!
Yes my limits were tested!
Yes I woke everymorning to put damp socks into blocks of ice for boots!
Yes I was concerned every minute I was up there.
Yes it was extreme and pushed the boundries of the safe and sane.
Yes it was the coolest thing I have ever done.
Yes I would do it again (more snow and colder)
The Smokies was somthing I hoped and prayed for and I was never in fear and I am a better hiker for it.
