Zealand Hut to Ethan Pond is a piece of cake, the flattest trail in the Whites. It’s an old RR grade. I’m afraid I don’t know about mid-week use, you won’t be alone, but it’ll be far less crowded than the weekend.

Hey Bluebearee, I was two hours behind you Saturday on your traverse. What a great day for a long hike!! I am burned to the nose cartilage. I also hiked the loop over the Tom, Wiley Field range down to Ethan Pond and back through Zealand Notch as a day hike two weeks ago. Its a beautiful hike although the Ethan pond end was very wet. Weekday crowds are not a big problem and stealth camping is possible if you are a little adventerous. Also the bush wack up the slide on the flat peak across from Zealand is pretty wild although very dangerous. I can’t remember the name of the peak though. Also check out Thoreau Falls for an afternoon dip. Have fun.

Anyone know of any specific thru-hikers that are going to be in the whites this upcoming week? Say, anytime from Monday through Friday? I’d love to meet some people who are currently on the trail.

I don’t have any names but I’ve seen about half a dozen in North Woodstock and Lincoln since last weekend. They’ll probably get to Gorham by the end of the week. Try inquiring at the Barn Hostel in Gorham, or the Glencliff Hostel.

Booboo, I disagree with you about Hikers Paradise in Gorham. Both it and the Barn are excellent places to stay in Gorham. Please, there are too many Hostel Wars already. We do NOT need another one.
