Tried the 1/2 gallon challenge at Pine Grove Furnace and was very pleased to get the fastest so far with a time of 15 minutes 27 seconds including a change of clothing when I got so cold.
On passing through the Doyle’s Hotel I noticed a hiker completed just over 11 minutes so decided to try again!
I sat down with my 1/2 gallon of butter pecan, so new time of 4 minutes and 31 seconds, witnessed by GG and Iron Foot

I gulped down the half-gallon of ice-cream in 3 minutes. First I put it in a big, wide bowl and gave it time to melt and then I drank it down. Next contestant, please!

I am a wimp. It took me almost two hours in 2003. But I did hike 17 miles that day after the challenge.

I might have had a wimpy flavor but I followed it up with a cheeseburger and the rest of my 25 miler into Boiling Springs. Not a bad trail lunch…
