My plan is to thru hike CT in 17 days.
Start 27th July arrive Durango 12th Aug.
(I have to be in Durango on the 13th for a flight back to Denver and then back to London UK)
Ive already worked out daily milage, places to camp, and resupply. Have stck together prints of maps of each section and copied the details of each section from the trail guide on the back of the maps.
In theory its possible, but is it in reality?
What say you?

I’ll see you on the 27th, same day I am starting. I’m planning a much more leisurely thru-hike though, won’t arrive in Durango until 8th September.

For your ambitious plan, my only thought to you is how much are you acclimatized to elevation? Hope you will be spending some time in Denver before starting, or it’s likely the elevation gain will hit you hard.

If you are constrained by an ending date that you must meet, I would strongly suggest that you consider starting the CT in the high country. I don’t think that 17 days is really doable (28+ miles per day, without any zeroes) starting from Waterton Canyon. Now, if you are trail running, that may be another matter, but your plans sounds a bit too aggressive. I would consider starting at Section 6 (Kenosha Pass) as an alternative. It is really hot (95+ degrees today in Denver, and the first three sections can be dry and miserable. Your choice… TrailGuy

hey, if you want to try I say go for it. others have done it. if you follow Andrew Skurka, he’s done the trail twice in about 15 days. you could look him up on the internet if you want to see the exact breakdowns of how he did it. that’s great to try to go as far as you can in 17 days, but don’t miss out on the beauty of the trail only because you don’t have enough time! the trail will always be there, you could always come back to finish another section another year! and the elevation indeed is a factor–about 2 to 3 times higher than the highest point in the UK… if you have not been training to compensate this, it might not be as easy to do 30 mile days. whatever happens though, I hope you have a great time… I’m sure you’ll be passing me pretty quick, I’ll be starting hopefully the 21st and going at it slow as I have no time constraint…

I do the best with my english…
you will do it…
I complished the ct last june-july in 20 days alone and it was a pure meditation. I walk in good shape from the morning until the night just enjoying this magnificent wild space. never i need or tried to make a challenge, i went to leadville and salida for groceries, a little shopping in silverton and the rest of the time I was walking with a light step. it’s not a question of willpower to go far you go light in your bag, in your step and in your mind. it’s a beautifull trail. have a good time.
