What are some great two person tents out there that are the lightest weight, most durable and cheapest in price? I am thinking $300.00 or less. Any information would be appreciated.

We used a Henry Shires tent for the two of us on the CDT. It’s small, but light.

What are the disadvantges if any of using a Mid tent or tarp type shelter versus a regular tent? Obvisously #1 is weight, but what about water intrusion and bugs being kept out?

I’m looking at the MSR Hubba Hubba 2007

I just got a Henry Shires Squall 2 tarptent. You can get them with sewn in floors and netting, so that bugs are no issue. Seem sealing them is relatively painless and will insure that water intrusion is no worry. This tent is 2 pounds, and comfortably fits two people. I usually hike solo, but prefer bigger tents and had many friends on the AT using this tent and had nothing but good things to say about it. This will be my tent for the PCT and is lighter than my one-person MSR tent.

my girlfriend and i just hiked the AT and we used the MSR Missing link for 6 months and loved it! all of our gear fit inside and there was still room. you use your trekking poles to stand it up. cutting all of the tags and loops out of the inside will get it down to 3lbs. all around great tent. henry shires are good but from what i’ve heard and seen on the trail they rip really easy for some reason, usually by the zippers

We’ve used a tarptent squall for over 5000 miles (PCT+CDT), and the only problems with it were minor fraying at pressure points, and a malfunctioning front zipper- only minor things. Also, Henry stands 100% behind his products, and his customer service has always been outstanding.
