20 Pound Test Fishing Line For Guy Outs?

I was just now sitting in my chair thinking about light weight things to use in place of other things on my trip. Has anyone ever tried 20 pound test fishing line as guy wire? Would that be strong enough?

looking to see if there is anyone out there hiking the trail who may come across a guy begining his hike today in GA. he is from Pennsylvania. As for your question it would work its tough to keep from getting all tangled.

You would be much better off with 50 pound test line. The carry weight difference is near zero. Congratulations on your endeavor. Chas

The fishing line would be invisible and everyone would trip over it.

I would not use monofilament fishing line for guys for several reasons:
1.As has been said it is near invisable and people would trip over it.
2. It is almost impossible to tie reliable knots in it that can be untied
3. And perhaps my most important reason, a slight knock in the line and the strength is almost zero.

If you are sold on using fishing line, look for braided saltwater line in about 50 pound strength. I use a bright gold, hard braided nylon line that is sold for net tying.
Another line I have used is a dark green hard braided line sold for duck decoys. Both of these are probably rated 100 pounds and have a working strength about half of that.

I agree with trailblazer, and would also point out for those with trip-over concerns, there is also a blaze orange woven string available that could be used, and is lightweight. I offered the suggestion re: heavier test line only because the original writer was asking about 20 lb. test.
