Anyone on here planning or thinking of hiking the CT this summer? I just got the guidebook, data book and map and have put the bug in my husband’s ear.

So…that’s half the battle.

Can’t make that one but how about a week in the Winds with B+B? August something or another.

Depends on my start date with this trip. I lived in UT for 10 years and did a bp in the Winds mid-80s. Beautiful spot. I’m looking to get out for a longer trip this year, may be quitting the job-ola to do it too!

Might be able to do a section of the CT with you depending on when you start. Bramble won’t know her schedual for a few months. When were you thinking of leaving?
Just caught a link on ct.org. You can take the narrow gauge railroad up to the trail head. That sounds like a blast.
“Q. Can you get on The Colorado Trail by using the train that goes between Durango and Silverton?
A. Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR. You can get access to The Colorado Trail from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Rail Road. Information about the train (you need to purchase ticket in advance) can be obtained from their website: www.DurangoTrain.com or by calling 970-247-2733. From Silverton, the train can drop you off in Elk Park which gives you access to The Colorado Trail.”

There is a very good hostel in Silverton is you decide to go there. I can;t remember the name, but if you call anyone there, they’ll know of it.

Planning to go SOBO (which is really SWBO), meaning ending in Durango. Trail Guy who posts here some lives 2 miles from the t/h in Denver area and would probably put me on the trail. Thanks for the hostel info Wookie, I’m just starting to research this, have always wanted to see the San Juans!!! Also by going this direction, may be able to catch some northbound CDTers, my buddy Garlic Man for starters.

Thinking early July?? Really have no plans yet, Hammockhanger may be interested as well as Macgyver (02). Leif tells me the early the better due to the t-storm season, and water situation. Early fall in the range would be gorgeous, but water is an issue. Will depend on this winter and how it plays out, Trail Guy tells me the eastern side of the Range is still below average for snowfall while it’s the opposite on the other side.

I know it is off topic… but since I can’t do the CT again this year I am thinking about a JMT hike after camp. Who knows though, I am always thinking about hiking at this time of the year. Does anyone know if September or late August is too late to start a JMT hike?

I missed my CDT buddy in '02, because he and many other of the NOBO’s take the bike routes around the wilderness areas that the CT goes through. It’s a long way to Montana!:boy

Skeemer, I was just razzing Leif. Like I would really tell Leif, TJ God that he is and mentor to my maybe hike to take it elsewhere! He knew that, (I hope). I would love to do the JMT myself, that’s been a toss up this year for me as well. But 6 weeks sounds pretty sweet.

Wookie, thanks for the heads up on that business. I didn’t know. iow, I shouldn’t be counting on running into him then at all huh? Why do CDT hikers do that? Save themselves the climbs?

I’m not sure, but I imagine that the climbs take longer than the ridge base routes. I’m sure everyone doesn’t do that. Ask me that question again in two years;)
