Just curious who else is planning a 2006 southbound cdt-thru-hike and if you have any start dates in mind yet.

I’m seriously considering it if I can make some $$$ soon.

Was thinking late June…

I’m also planning an 06 (hopefully) CDT southbound trek. My ultimate goal is to start southbound from the northern terminus of the GDT in Canada and then continue south and hook up with the CDT. Probobly start around mid-late june and then start hoofing it to make up time. Trying to get Nacho (AT02, PCT04) to come with and heard Hossier (AT03, PCT04) is rumored to be hitting the CDT this year too.

I’m hiking the CDT this summer too! I cant wait to be back out there! we are going to start in NM in april (Cant wait until June to start) and then flip up to Canada from northern NM and SOBO back to NM. So we will be SOBOing most of the trail after our flip along with the regular SOBO folks. Should be a number of us from PCT '04 out there ! Starting at the same time will be my girlfriend Kalyn, friend Arturo, and Magnum/Adam from(PCT 04).

i think i am going to give it a shot also this summer. do not know if i will do the whole trail in one shot or break it up over two years(having done the colorado trail already), the new mex start/flip-flop sounds real cool, but either way i can’t wait! finding a hiking partner(s) to at least start with would be cool too! anyway, sounds like fun!!!

Because snow levels are so low right now in the Southwest, this might be a good year to do a straight northbound hike. The south San Juans are currently at about 50% of normal. Obviously, that can change in the next four months - but a flip may not be necessary.

I hope I see you out there.

I’ll be out there this summer too. Because of work, I’ll probably be going southbound, but you never know what can happen. I’d definitely be into having some company, especially in the early going. Cheers!!

I’ll be heading out there in April - probablly will be doing the flippity flop thing unless as Ginny says the snow cooperates. So far it will be Myself, Salamander, Packrat and Homebrew heading North. The countdown is on!!!

It’s going to be another big year. So far I count 28 who have said they’ll be thruhiking, plus another 7 section hikers. A few may drop out - life happens and plans change - but it will be interesting to see so many on the trail.

I’ll be out there, heading south from the border around mid-June or whenever the snow allows. Hey greyhound are you the greyhound I met on the PCT last year? (saw you around Sisters and again just before you finished by Lake Tahoe).

My wife, Neil (from England, PCT '99), and I (PCT '98, PCT '99) will be SOBO this year. For lack of a better date, we are looking at a June 15 departure from Glacier.

Looking forward to quitting work, seeing some old friends (Homebrew, etc), and walking for 5 months!

Sounds like it’s gonna be a big year out there! Ginny, you said the snow is low in the south, when I was looking at Glacier the other day they looked pretty low there too. Also, the backcountry ranger I talked to at Yellowstone a week ago said they had a lot early and then a big melt-off. Have you (or anyone else) heard this too?

Skittles- Hey, don’t know if you remember me but my fiancee Remy and I met you (along with Recess, and a whole bunch of others) right out of Seied Valley last year on the PCT.

I’ve been following the snotel sites over the past month or so - A good one is at
http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/sno_narr3_pl

Current levels are:

62% of normal in southern Colorado up to 139% in the north
Wyoming - Idaho about 130-150% of normal
Montana - just about normal (80-125% depending on the area)
New Mexico - 25% in the south to about 60% up north

I have been trying to access Jim Wolfe via the website on obtaining some of the maps and my emails have been sent back to undelivered. Is the site having trouble and/or anyone have another address??
