I was wanting to get an idea of how many people where going to thru hike or section hike this year and when. I plan on hiking the GA section in May.

I section hiked the GA section last October. Four out of the five nights I camped alone. This May, I plan to hike from Dick’s Creek to Fontana Dam. I expect to use my tent every night because shelters might be full. I love to plan my section hikes as detailed as possible, but half the fun is dealing with the unexpected. Enjoy your hike.

Most of the thru hikers will be well north by May so the shelters in Ga. should have room. The Ga. section has plenty of tent spots near the shelters and most have a privy. There will be a fair amount of hikers on the trail on the weekends and later in the month as school terms ends. Have a great hike…Swamp Dawg

Hey SmokeEater are you a Firefighter or is that name from some campfire incident?
I have a few sections to fill-in between Davenport Gap and Damascus and plan to start in June. Maybe I’ll catch up with you there.

I will be out this summer again. NC and Va in May or Penn to NJ and NY in June (plans not final yet), and 100 Mile in early Sept. Probably another in there somewhere.
I am not retired so I actually have to work between my two to four week sections.
I have about 900 miles done, so much farther to go! Seems like I’ve been walking forever! But, when I’m done I’ll probably just start again!:girl

Starting May 1st at Springer, heading north to Harpers Ferry this year. See you out there.
