My son and I are starting on March 8th. I just talked tonight to a friend, Weatherman, who thru hiked in 1998 and he is planing to join us for part of the trail. I have 3 and a half more weeks of teaching and then a week to make final preparations. Can’t wait. See you all on the trail!

this is a popular time frame to begin. You will indeed meet up with hikers from all walks of life. It is a nice lil stretch to Hiawasee and then on into Franklin. Both are good trail towns and they will almost seem magical as you dip into society again if for a brief time. Have an amazing trip and just remember to hike your hike and no one else’s.
