Good luck to everyone experiencing the CDT in 2010!

I’m so excited! I’m not looking forward to the cost of printing them but at least it’ll be a trail-related task for me to work on.

A recommendation here hikers, go for the updated version. There has been a lot of re-routes and additional info added. I used the 2007 version on my 2009 hike and noticed quite the difference (I got lost too).

The cost when printing?, worth it in the long run. Watch the color quality as you go along. The blue can fade, that equals water and water is king. Some of the maps change fonts, topo lines can run together and the contour index can be difficult to read (the elevation readings). The larger sheet of paper is recommended, single sided and pre-marked (trimmed) so you can put them together easily when on the ground.

Before you head out, find a huge open area and lay them out before you, it will help make sense of it all.

GPS?!? Can be helpful but, batteries do fail. Compass work as you go along, always a good thing. Remember the top of the map is to the north (ha).

Just my two cents… HYOH.

Jonathon -
God willing and the creek don’t rise, we may want maps for 2012. Gotta go do it again.
