Just read some guys journal who bailed off the trail in 2005, and he threw out the following statement:
“Many hikers, like myself, have dropped off the trail, and just as many are skipping large sections to make it to Canada before winter. He thinks the success rate this year is going to be very low. Maybe 5%. I have to agree. Many “thru hikers” I met are not doing the full 2650 miles.”
Truth? Anyone out there know?

Freebird, two of your “possibles” did, indeed, finish. The couple would be “Safari Bill” and Monte “Apple” Chipman from Petaluma, CA. They did some flipping around and were on the last leg of their journey when they stayed with us.
