Great journal. Brings back memories of hiking the trail in the Linden area an roads. The A-T used to follow rt 638 right thru Linden. There were other areas in Northern Va. where the trail followed roads for a number of miles. You can still see the old white blazes leaving Linden and heading up rt 638 northbound. It was great when they relocated the trail off the roads in this area. I enjoyed reading there journal. Jim
Scaper
We did many older sections going north in '01. I was fun to stop and talk to people that said the trail used to come by thier house. Good stories from them from way back when.

Gee BW, you’re making me feel real old right now. '77 does seam like a long time ago, however many of the memories are still very fresh.
Of course the AT is a lot different these days. Fewer roads, more people, more services, less remote. Still people can still have a great time hiking the AT these days like we did, way back when.

Fallingwater, my friend hiked in 77, NOBO. I sent him your link today, you must have passed each other somewhere in the middle. He left May 5 and finished Oct 14th. He was going by the Bangor Maniac then I think, he was just 18 out of high school but is one of the major reasons I hiked in 02. I spot read a few of your entries in the middle today thinking what a hoot that would be to see a reference to him.
