8-10 day JMT trip

I’m planning to do an 8-10 day JMT trip next August, heading south from Tuolumne. I’m slow, so will maybe do 8-10 miles a day. Where would be a good place to come off the trail? I was thinking Bishop’s Pass, but this might be a bit far, or Duck Pass, but that might not be far enough! Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Mono Pass Trail at JMT mile 84.9 (sobo) is fun hike. It takes you 14.8 miles of the JMT to Mosquito Flat trailhead. From here you can hitch to Bishop. The hike on the Mono pass trail is gorgeous as you spend a lot of the time walking next to the beautiful mono creek, then ascend for miles towards gorgeous mono pass (around 12,000 feet) and then down a beautfiul set of switchbacks with a comanding view of the valley going into mosquito flat.

Thanks so much for the suggestion - I’ll check it out on my Harrisons. I would never have come up with that one.

Or you could hike another 3 miles and take the fery across Lake T. A. Edison to the Vermilion Resort and exit to the west.

Hi Rambler - I thought of that and it’s a good one - I was just concerned about how easy/difficult it might be to get a ride from VVR (there’s three of us most likely). Or, maybe I could leave a car there?
