A few extravagances- guitar & Blackberry

Planning for a thru-hike in 2006, and having 2 problems: 1) I really don’t want to be away from the guitar practice for that long, but I’ve never been out this long before, a.k.a. needed so much SCHTUFF- where have any of you seen folks strap/sling/hump their guitars? 2) Getting some jitters from the friends & family about not carrying a cell phone or other modern nusiance, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a Blackberry w/ built-in GPS, so that I can stay in touch with you good folks along the way. Planning to use only in emergencies or to e-mail in town… Anyone have any experience with this equipment, thoughts or opinions (oh, who are we kidding, you ALL have opinions! :o) )

Forget the techno stuff, thats what a town stop is for. As for the old geetar situation, you can buy a backpacker guitar, not quite the same sound but a guitar none the less. I was tempted to carry one as the prspect of not playing for so long seemed horrific. I decided not to take it but had great luck playing other peoples as i’m sure you will. If you stay at Elmers in Hot Springs (if he’s still open??) he has a music room with all kinds of good stuff. And there’s traildays, you could always bum a quick play at a campfire party. Do not despair, you’ll probably forget all about the guitar when it’s 20 degrees.
