A place to watch a meteor shower?

Hey folks,

I’m looking to take a few folks out for an easy overnight hike next weekend somewhere in PA, MD, or VA.

This coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, so I’m looking for a place to set up camp on a peak, bald, or otherwise neat overlook…preferably without tons of car-campers or light pollution.

Thanks for your tips!

Yeah–I’ve thought about that, but driving 6-7 hours+ down there isn’t really an option. It’s a fantastic place though…

I car camp to watch the perseids in Red River Gorge, KY. They have awesome exposed peninsular ridge top campsites all over the place. E-mail me if you want to know where these sites are… These sites are cliff-lined in many spots so it wouldn’t be a great place to take drunken/inflenced friends. I’ve seen meteors that make my eyes water they are so bright and spewing sparks in the gorge in aug./sept… Have fun!
