A.T Erwin south, whats the scoop

Hey. Just interested in whats going on down south in november. I'm looking at doing a nice section down there, possibly over thanksgiving. I haven't been in this neck of the woods since 2004, then 2001 before that. Is Miss Janet's place still open? If not, where would be an awesome trail place to eat thanksgiving dinner? Who knows, maybe Damascus north could be fun. Any ideas to help me along in the planning of a last minute hike would be great.

Cheers

R.N., Janet has been closed for few years now, to regroup. You might consider Duncannon north. I have peoples up there that might shuttle/put you up, from Dun to DWG. Might not see anyone tho.

Wow. I looked up Miss Janets and saw that she has a hostel in Franklin, is this still open? A lot can change over the years can't it, blows me away. I'm thinking Erwin to Franklin, a nice section taking in the GSMNP. If hike this section it'll be the third time. First time it was an october, second was a march, now november/december. I know it'll be quiet out there, which is fine. What about hostels and stuff? Maybe i'll have to make plans ahead of time with those guys if i need to zero this late in the hiking season. My hope is that most places will be partially open in anticipation of late SOBO's.

Pay no attention to David Duke - he just likes to see his name in print. The AT will be open. I think Miss Janet is running a hostel for Ron Haven in Franklin. She was trying to get a new place opened up near Erwin, but it must be on hold.

To Leif and Zip Drive: can't we ban this David Duke character or automatically kick out his idiotic comments. He never has anything useful to say, just like his name sake. The next intelligent thing he says will be a first.

We saw Miss Janet at ALDHA. We got the impression that the Franklin hostel didn’t work out to well. I believe the Franklin hostel is not open.

Franklin Hostel is closed. I doubt that Ron will open it next year, 'cause he now has 3 hotels to deal with.

I take it Ron's hotels/motels are still open for hiker business in november/december...

I have seen the shuttle list on the ATC website but does anyone recommend anyone in particular for a shuttle from Ashville to Erwin?
