A.T. Guidbooks - Appalachian Trail

I have The A.T. Guide, 2016 Northbound edition. I’ve also seen that there is an A.T. Thru Hikers Companion, an A.T. Data Book, and another called AWOL. Any preference? I will be leaving from Springer sometime around the end of May, and will have 4-6 weeks to hike.

AWOL’s AT Guide is the one I used on my hike. I had the Thru Hikers Companion also but hardly ever used it because AWOL had all of the most thorough and up to date information.

I used the Thru-Hikers Companion last year and found it very useful, for what was ahead. The only thing I found wrong with it, was that the mileage figures on the Profile pages didn’t jive with the mileage “list pages”. For example: on page 100, the distance showing for U.S. 522, Front Royal, Va. is 965. On page 104 the mileage is shown at 969.4 for the same spot. Use which ever one you want, they’re both pretty good. Enjoy your hike!!

You won’t need to buy anymore guide books. Go with the one you have.
