Aching ankles - Appalachian Trail

My ankles are killing me. I have been out with a backpack before but now both ankles are killing me. Any suggestions?

Get some 9 inch high insulated gortex boots, loose enough to wear two pairs of heavy socks with them (they absorb sweat as you feet sweat and also cushion the feet). Lace boots down snug, they will give your ankles some support.

Also take a day or two off, just lay around at a hostel or shelter for a few days, then hike five or ten miles and see how they feel then. If sore, take some more time off. It takes time for the body to adjust to hiking with a full pack.

Be careful and take it easy or you will fall victim to the too’s, too fast, too heavy, too many miles, too soon, etc.

See you out there. :cheers
