Hi,
Thinking about a trip to the Smokys or maybe around Max Patch, Hot Springs. Could anyone tell me what airport is most convenient to the area? Thanks.

Smokies, not Smokys.

Depends on what kind of connections you are looking for. The nearest major airport is probably Atlanta. Knoxville and Asheville have airports, but they may only be served by ‘commuter’ airlines. Google time my friend.

I’ve flown into Knoxville. It is a good size airport and regular jets fly into it. I took Delta. The airport is actually in the town of Alcoa outside Knoxville. By car you can be in the Smokies within an hour. You probably will have to transfer from some hub airport like Atlanta or Cincinnati.

Greenville-Spartenburg is about an hour drive from Ashville.

Ashville will be closest, but atlanta or charlotte NC may be cheaper - both are hubs (Delta and USair)

Knoxville. Alcoa to Townsend then the parkway to Gatlinburg and you are in the center of the Smokies. Call the Happy Hiker in Gatlinburg and see if you could set up a shuttle. It is not hard to hitch to Newfound Gap but then it is tough to get any where from Fontana Dam (South end)or Davenport Gap (North End). You may contact the hostel just north of Davenport Gap (Bear’s Paw?).
