Alcohol Stoves and the PCT

I’m in the planning stages of my '03 PCT thruhike attempt but have little experience in getting supplies on the west coast. For those people using alcohol stoves on the PCT, how difficult was it to obtain fuel during your hikes. Any problems using alcohol (mini-pepsi can stove) that you think I need to know about? I am also planning to use Esbit as a backup but would prefer to use alcohol if at all practical.

We had no problems in 2002 getting alcohol fuel up to Tuolumne Meadows. After that we had boxes with de-natured alcohol mailed to our re-supply points. Sometimes we had too much, but that was better than the alternative. I’ve posted an offer of help above, but I’ll add it here - as we went I wrote my own version of the town guide including the availability of alcohol/heet. If you’d like a copy e-mail me - simonwillis@backpacker.com

Everybody knows there are 2 formulations of Heet? One is methanol, good; the other is isopropal; not as good. It will burn but is sooty and doesn’t produce as much heat. It works in a pinch, just not as well. If you have a choice, take the meth product.
