Alcohol vs. cannister stoves

I have used both alcohol stoves and cannister stoves over the years--both have plusses and minuses. Just wondering, which is easier to resupply along the AT, cannister fuel or denatured alcohol??

My name is DreamWalker. I did a thru-hike on the A.T. in 2011. Alcohol is much easier to fine on the A.T. I carried the Mini Trangia 28 stove. You can use Heet in the yellow bottle which is easy to fine. You can also mix heet with denatured alcohol. The heet bottle served as my fuel storage container. Go to trailjournals/DreamWalker for more information. Happy Trails!!!!! :cheers

I used alcohol on the triple crown. It is so expensive in Europe, I had to go with a MSR multi-propaner over there.

Seems like last year everybody on the Long Trail had a Jetboil… I resisted until my 20% off REI coupon was about to expire & snatched up a titanium version (the most expensive one, but I don’t cook in aluminum cups)… heard on the trail it was way more efficient & I guess it’s true that it uses half the fuel so you can carry a 100g can or 2 instead of the big monster 260g one… everyone on the trail can’t be all wrong (may not work on the cdt with so few trail towns).

									Alibi,

Simply carry your favorite stove on the A.T. Alcohol and cannister fuel are both easily obtained over the entire A.T. You won’t have problems finding either.

Definitely alcohol for the price and ease of use and availability.
