ALDHA THC - Appalachian Trail

I downloaded the 2002 ALDHA Thru Hikers Companion - and while it had great charts for each state showing the mileage between shelters, and nice descriptions of towns and crossroads, it doesn’t appear to include the towns and roads on the mileage charts.
So while I may know that Town X is between two shelters that are 12 miles apart, I can’t tell whether the town is one mile from the first shelter and 11 from the second, or 2 and 10, or 6 and 6… I am reading this thing wrong? Help!

If you are using the ATC Companion, then buy the AT Data book. Otherwise, buy Wingfoot’s Thru-Hiker Handbook and ditch the ATC Companion
