yes you can I believe, also, someone correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you check them on a plane and mail them too?

Before 9-11 there was a way to send fuel by mail. Something about UPS and a declared HAZMAT, by ground, that’s how it gets to the dealer anyway. One guy we hiked with sent himself butane the whole way but I’m not sure which method of declaration. I guess be frank and call around to the shippers. I think it was just a simple for of what it was. Dry ice is a hazmat would you believe. I needed a form to send some fresh food to me in PA. by UPS.

Thanks Bushwhack. 9-11 scars. I rmemeber prior that esbit was fairly lenient in shipping, not explosive or pressurized like the butane etc… That’s what is the only reason why I’d even consider them for the hiking in CO, just so easy to put in a maildrop, ahmmm, I believe. will do good to inquire to see. Things have changed, I would never dare try shipping the things I did last year on the AT this year, sheesh.

ESBIT is OK via USPostal Service. Just received a supply from REI and it arrived via USPS with no special handling.

According to the specs on Fuel that I have read at the USPS, one can ship fuel provided it is by ground and not air.

So, I am not surprised to hear that the USPS shipped the ESBIT fuel. What would surprise me is if it is shipped by air.

Thanks everyone for the response. But I’m still curious about the flying (USAir)… If Mr. Boo is right and he may very wel be, than I may be out of luck with checkng my pack with a dozen esbit tablets in 'em. I know white gas and butane is out of the question, but not sure about esbits. Thanks.

The answer was under my nose all along. Unfortnately, it is not what I was hoping for. SO when I fly into Denver, I’ll have to make a side trip to a hardware store or PO…
