Angry birds - The Colorado Trail

About 4 miles up from the trailhead on Seg. 5 in Lost Creek Wilderness, there is a very angry bird, probably a grosshalk. Warned me then swooped within inches of my head about half a dozen times. I shouted her off, like a mad mountain woman, waving my water bottle. I returned in reverse direction and decided to calmly walk through, and ignore. However, Grosshal swept by and snatched my white cap off my head and flew off to never never land. Moral: hold onto your hats, boys and girls

A Gosshawk attacked my head ripping my windbreaker’s hood - East of Buena Vista three years ago.

I just finished 1-6 sections of the CT and the bird went after me, nd 4 others that I am aware. The only person it actually got is now known as hawkbait. I have to say it was pretty darn wierd to have a hawk diving at you. Funny at first, then just wierd.

My husband and I were also dive bombed by a hawk in Seg. 5 on June 10, 2012. We guessed that it was protecting a nest.

I was nailed in the head by a goshawk in 2010 in seg. 5. Read www.trailjournals.com/woofer for details. The goshawk confirmation came from a bird of prey expert from HawkQuest Parker, Colorado. Two groups I have shuttled to the trail this year have confirmed the angry birds are still there.

I spoke with a bird of prey expert from Ft Collins yesterday at the Ren. Fest, and she said “Yep, sounds like a goshawk” they are very protective of their nest. So, I guess when I travel thru next week I better move fast 8)
