Never knew them personally but saw them on a couple of videos on ultralight backpacking. They just seemed like really nice down to earth folks that would do anything for you. I hadnt heard that Annie was killed. And now Larry. So very sad.

This is very tough news to hear. Allt he more reason to get involved with organizations and projects that get trails and pathways off roads. How many people have to die from automobiles before we get serious about safe alternative transportation?
my prayers are with the family, and us all…

Having just finished re-reading their PCT journal, I was struck with a sense of real grief though I have never met them. Their words will live on as will the memories that they gave others. They certainly seemed like fine people. Being an avid cyclist myself, one who love to tour and ride, there is a certain absurd senselessness to dieing in this manner. Wookie is right… the cycling community needs support.

Whenever I hear of someone dying who seems to be someone I would have really liked knowing, I think of the line…“any man’s [or woman’s] death diminisheth me”…And It makes me decide to live my life with greater emphasis on being the person I want to be (loving, etc); instead of being fearful, mean spirited, etc.

When I read about people getting killed doing something extemely dangerous, like riding a bike on a 2-lane road, I resolve to be more careful in the future. There are lot safer things to do for pleasure in this world.
