Has anyone here ever had a problem with a bear getting into food in a dispersed campsite? I’m considering getting an Ursack. I’ve never had a problem with any animal in Colorado, but it maybe I’ve been lucky.

I have an UrsackI but have heard negative reports. May just decide to leave it behind. Would also like input.

My wife and I have used Ursacks for the past 12 years. We have never had an animal get into our food. We have hiked extensively including the Sierra where bears can be a problem. They offer good lightweight protection. My ursack weighs under 6 ozs and I can usually fit 5 days of food in one.

I use the OPSack odor proof bags on the CT and have never had an issue. SJ Ron

I don’t know how the OPsak works, but it is nice to only have to find a tree to tie it to, since at altitude, there’s almost never a decently limbed tree anywhere you can camp ! My small Ursack works as its sposed to; but I have to tie a knot around the neck of my big yellow ursack becuz it don’t close all the way, as it’s sposed to. Never had a big bear try to claw it, but I’ve got claw holes in my tent fly from when I camped with my food since there was no good sized trees around !!!
