If I have to be in shool aug. 20 what day would be a relistic time to start my at tru hike for 2007.

Four months earlier if you like to consistently hike long days (20 miles) come rain or shine.
Five months earlier if you enjoy a day or two off the trail every couple of weeks.
Six months earlier if you enjoy sidetrips, days off, town food, and the company of others.

I had the same dilemna last year, I had to be ready for school at the end of August. I started Feb. 22 and that seemed pretty reasonable…enough time to take a few days off and I went to Washington for a week.
