Aloha All! As someone currently working on the logistics for a possible PCT thru-hike next year, I personally appreciate and thank all that have produced/published any documentation, to include their participation in listings such as this one, that may assist me in my preparations. Will my reading/researching a variety of material, diminish my Grand Adventure? Will my Grand Adventure be not as Grand? Not having experienced it any other way - I don’t believe so. Do these type publications, forums and even workshops (AT/PCT/CDT) increase the percentage of both those hiking the trails and completing them? Absolutely. But is this truly a bad thing? With knowledge comes wisdom. People are going to hike the trail but maybe due to having had books, forums and workshops to garner information from, they will do so wiser, safer and with less impact. With that same knowlege, the odds are they will also bring more money to the care of the trail. And this, of course, is important to any all trails. Hikers are going to come – isn’t informed and better prepared a good thing?
Again, thank you to all for your efforts whether it be by publications or sharing your thoughts, experiences and knowledge through the numerous forums, seminars and workshops. I look forward to my next Grand Adventure. And the one after that. Aloha!
Aloha! Ann
