Anxiety after hiking?

Have any of you noticed a higher anxiety toward certain things after your hike?

I’ve noticed that I’ve become somewhat claustrophobic and anxious inside clubs and bars that are very enclosed. This past weekend, I was out at a club - very closed in, no windows, black walls, etc., with a lot of people, and started having a bit of a panic attack.

I didn’t even think about it before I went to this place, as I had been out a few times in the past few weeks, but the other places I’ve gone to have been a lot more open - - either outdoors, or opened up with windows, etc.

I’ve never had this problem before I hiked. Is this kind of normal, and will it eventually pass?

I found this to be the case while ON the trail. In Pearisburg and in Waynesboro, everyone that was gathered there would have a room but we all would end up sitting outside, in some form or another till it was time for bed.

In Pearisburg, it was hot as hell that day, but nobody wanted to be in. You get used to the big space around you and I do think a little claustrophobia sets in.

Try putting up hurricane shutters on your house for 36 hours … talk about claustrophobic

I think that some of us are just a bit more “into” whatever space, place or environment we’re around than others …we are a bit more sensitive to changes in that space. The good side is that we notice small things more…the bad side is that we notice small things more! LOL:cheers Really, too, the environmental changes after hiking are NOT all that small either…it takes a while to shift back into the normal stuff of day to day life. Good luck & don’t worry too much. One panic attack does not = a major problem, tho it is uncomfortable. You may find tho that you learn that you actually don’t have a real liking or preference for dark smokey closed in spaces in general anymore…sounds kind of healthy to me!

I’m always freaked out about driving. I mean, I was before but WAY more now. People drive crazy-like! Why can’t I walk everywhere??

Oh man, yes. After a couple months in pretty remote places this summer, I’ve had a hard time coming back to academic stress (I’m a university lecturer). It’s ridiculous in a way: I mean, I’m not going to be eaten by a grizzly while preparing homeworks or suffer hypothermia during class, but somehow all the artificial, petty pressures really got to me this time. The worst has passed now, I think, but I’m usually a super-mellow person and I’m still relatively on edge.

Good luck!
