Any Squeaky sightings?

Have any hikers along the southern stretch of the North Carolina-Tennessee border or northern Georgia had contact with Matthew “Squeaky” Hazley? He is due to reach Springer Mountain by Monday, Dec. 26, which would complete his Triple Crown in a calendar year – 237 days, to be exact – and break Brian Robinson’s 2001 record by more than two months. Matt’s family has flown over from England to meet him. His most recent journal post was Dec. 13. I met Matt in late July as he was finishing the PCT in then-record time and have been following his progress ever since. Any update would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Squeaky just left a message on my answering machine last night. He’s in Fontana Dam at the moment, so a little behind of where we thought he would be by now. Don’t want to throw up a red flag, but the message was left around 11pm and there seemed to be something wrong in his voice. He didn’t leave many details though. Hope all is well, not to far now for him.

there seemed to be something wrong in his voice.<<<

–Too much spiked eggnog

–Tourons at the Fontana Hilton got him down

I heard from Squeaky’s mum (after wishing her a Merry Christmas) today. They spent some time with Squeaky at Fontana Dam last night. He is pressing on, despite snow etc in the Smokies. His pace–because of snow, ice, darkness etc.–slowed a bit. He now expects to be at Springer Mountain on Thurdsay.
Go! Squeaky! Go!
We’re all rooting for ya!
Merry Christmas!

Hi there, spent the night with Squeaky, his dad and brother and I went and met him , he was at Fontana Dam in the Ladies Loo as it was heated and sheltered out of the rain, it was great to see him again, we needed to bring him food and duct tape to patch up his feet which are very swollen and sore, he sure will finish and hopes to be down by Thursday afew days later than when he thought. As long as he is down by midnight on Dec 31st he has accomplished what he set out to do. His spirits never leave him and he is in good health bar his feet, but not sure enough to stop him completing.

Happy holidays to you all.

Squeaky has a great interview on trailcast.org.

Hear Squeaky tell his own story, in his own voice.

Phenomenal. Absolutely great.

Joyous Solstice, and Happy Winter Eating Event to All!
