Approch trail - 5 day hike

imported
#1

I am set to fly into Atlanta at the end of February to do a section hike. Starting at the approch trail then to Springer and North.
I was thinking about 80 miles or less in the five full days.
Questions
Place to stay and park car.
How to get picked up when done.

I will try to help. I’m guessing that you are flying to Atlanta and picking up a vehicle then driving to the trail. If that is so, you can park in the parking lot across from the visitors center. If you need a hotel, you can stay at the Amicalola Lodge. 706 265 8888, it’s a mile up the trail. I would egress the trail at Dicks creek gap, highway US-76, it is 69 miles up the trail from Springer. The Top of Georgia Hostel is .5 to the left. They will help you arrange a shuttle back to your car. It is 11 miles to the town of Hiawassee Georgia which has several hotel options.

At the Amicalola Falls Visitor Center, get a permit to park your car.

I’m being picked up in Atlanta and we’re driving to trail.
Would you know the approximate costs for:
Lodge Stay
Shuttle Service back
Permit to park.
Thank you for the earlier information.:cheers

Here is something to think about; You can take the Marta train to it’s North station and get picked up by the Hiker Hostel. They will put you up for the night and deliver you to the trail the next morning. This cost me $80 (USD) in 2013. Hard to beat a deal like that. Then, as Francis said, get off at TOG and get a shuttle back to Atlanta.

There is no charge to park at the Amicalola Falls visitor center. Hiker Hostel is a great resource.

Thank you for the shuttle information.
I’ll try to keep it in mind in a few years from now when I do my Thru hike.
Good so no charge to park for a few days in Amicaola Falls visitor center lot.

There is a charge at Amicalola SP. $5 for as long as your hike is or for one day. You can actually pay $5 to park your car and hike to Maine.
