Approximate 100 Mile Hike - Starting at Springer

Each year my son and I do a hike along the AT that usually goes for approximately 100 miles. This year, we are looking at starting at Springer Mountain. My question, where would be a good finish line? Looking for a place I can park my car, in a safe place, then get a shuttle to Springer and hike back to my car. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, any other planning ideas in regards to this hike will also be appreciated. Planning on hiking sometime in August. Should be nice and hot by that time. Also, does water sources become an issue at this time of the year? Thanks a bunch for your help.

my first choice would check with standing indian campground and see if you can park inside the campground for a fee. i personally would not park at the hiking parking lot outside the campground. others would.

my second choice would be to see if you can leave your car at ron havens hotel during the time you will be gone. you’ll have to stay there at least a nite to do so. problem with this is you’ll need a shuttle to franklin when you finsh hiking.

water may be an issue at some sources. ask again closer to your departure date.

I live near Springer. If you would like to drive here I can drive you up to Winding Stair Gap and you can go Sobo to Springer (107) miles, or Wallace Gap(104). You Can leave your car at my place(Ellijay, Ga.) I can pick you up at Springer when done. E-Mail if interested.
